On National Senior Citizens Day, August 21, 2021, Community First Health Plans hosted a special, free, family-friendly event at the outdoor garden grounds of University Health Texas Diabetes Institute in San Antonio designed to honor senior citizens within the local community. Seniors and their families were invited to enjoy a celebratory morning filled with fun activities, including bingo, a live mariachi band, giveaways, refreshments, and health screenings.
The event also served as an opportunity for seniors to learn about Community First’s newest health plan, Medicare Advantage Alamo (HMO) Plan Medicare Advantage Alamo (HMO) Plan, specially designed for seniors in Bexar County ages 65+. Community First is excited to now provide the same level of outstanding, quality health care coverage to seniors it has been providing families, children, expecting mothers, and individuals with special needs in our service area for over 25 years.
Theresa Scepanski, CEO/President of Community First, explained why Community First decided to host an event specifically designed for the senior population.
“Community First Health Plans is the only locally owned and operated nonprofit health plan in San Antonio,” Scepanski stated. “We believe that we are able to truly understand our community because we live here, we work here, and can offer benefits targeted to the specific health needs of our community, including our seniors. Our Senior Citizen Appreciation Day event was a great opportunity for us to connect with these individuals, celebrate their contributions to our community, and let them know the services we can offer them.”
During the event, Community First pharmaceutical staff administered blood pressure checks and diabetic screenings to help seniors understand their numbers, evaluate risk, and provide medical advice. Staff also provided seniors and their families information about Community First Medicare Advantage Alamo Plan (HMO), a new health plan designed to serve the health care needs of local seniors ages 65+ residing in Bexar County.
